The stages, briefly
A typical revenue cycle runs through eligibility verification, charge capture and claim submission, payer processing, payment posting, denial management, accounts receivable follow-up, and reporting.
Each stage depends on the one before it. A coverage issue missed at eligibility becomes a denial after submission; a denial left unposted hides the true balance; an unworked balance ages until it is written off.
Where revenue leaks
Revenue rarely disappears in one big failure. It leaks out slowly through the gaps between stages: a claim nobody follows up on, a denial that expires, an underpayment no one notices.
That is why running the stages as one connected process, with one team watching the handoffs, tends to protect the most revenue.
Why visibility matters
You cannot fix what you cannot see. Regular reports on what was submitted, paid and denied, and how balances are aging, turn billing from a black box into something you can manage.
